Please describe the project specifications.

The project consisted of building thirty-two 6 foot tall oversized backlit hockey pucks to serve as the main feature outside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville for the 2016 NHL All Star Game.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client wanted to build hockey pucks that had imagery featuring an all-star representing each team in the NHL. They needed to be durable as they would be located outside for a week and also used as photo ops for fans during the event. The intent is for them to last for five years, moving around for each year’s all-star game with changeable graphics.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The pucks were to be backlit, however no power available was on the city sidewalk. Car batteries with chargers were installed in each puck to provide the power for LED interior lighting that lit the double sided backlit faces. A custom circular SEG frame was created that removes separately for easy fabric graphic changes.

What were the results of the project?

It was outstanding. The NHL was pleased with the results: some 250,000 social media impressions from fans and players alike. Fans lined up to take selfies next to the pucks featuring a favorite player. The pucks now have a planned tour with NHL events and will be updated with different imagery.
