Please describe the project specifications

We fabricated and installed a full enclosure and sunshades on a Destination Yacht Custom Houseboat. To meet our customer's needs, the enclosure had to protect from the elements while offering unobstructed lake views.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

When we decided to build a new houseboat we knew we wanted the second level to be usable year-round. We also wanted to be protected from the cold, heat and have more privacy. They surpassed our expectations with the enclosures on our houseboat. Our home away from home is now complete! Jody and Diane Tipton/ Lake Lanier

What is unique or complex about the project?

Our biggest obstacle was on the front of the boat. The span from the second floor roof line to the rails where the enclosure was to attach was larger than normal and on an angle that would not allow for standard panels. We decided to install aluminum support structures. We calculated the width of Regalite we used for our windows and placed a support between each of our panels where the connecting zipper would rest. Then we allowed for air movement through the area by adding inverted “U” zip windows with double pulls. "U" zip windows allow the customer to open the window halfway and snap it back to the panel, avoiding rolling the window.
The back portion of the enclosure had its own challenges. Our customer wanted it to look like the rest of the boat, so we ordered Alupanel sheets from Destination Yacht and attached the sheets to aluminum framed walls we constructed. We then fabricated the rear portion of the enclosure to attach to the upper portion of the frame. We offer a unique door design fabricated from aluminum that we call our Rigid Door. Installing Rigid Doors eliminated the cumbersome zipper door, and on this job we installed five of our Rigid Doors. The two across the rear were 48” wide each and open like French doors, providing a spectacular view.
Our customer also wanted privacy and shade, so we fabricated a sunshade using Textilene90 for every panel, which we installed using hook and loop for easy removal.

What were the results of the project?

"Just wanted give a huge thank you to Lakeside Marine Canvas for their impeccable workmanship. We love our enclosures.
