Please describe the project specifications

The Queensland State Velodrome is a new indoor track facililty located in Queensland Australia. This facility will play a major role in the staging of the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The unique and visually exciting custom designed stadium has a basic form that is in response the requirements of natural ventilation and lighting and inspired by the track geometries
The stadium also incorporates a roof span North - South of 120m and East to West of 110m

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested that the walls and a portion of the roof be fabricated in block out fabric
in addition to this, the fabric required above the track area needed to be a 8% translucancy to enable the delivery of natural lighting, wherever possible, to track for cyclists and events.

In partnership with the fabric manufacturer we developed a custom block out ptfe fabric and an 8 % translucency fabric (compared to the standard 12%)

What is unique or complex about the project?

The project is notable for its large saddle-form roof over 10,000m2 in area. The large steel superstructure is clad on the walls and roof with a combination of block out and translucent fabric.
In total the installation of
23 roof panels
20 wall panels

What were the results of the project?

As Queensland's first indoor velodrome, this new world class facility will attract elite training squads and competition events to further the development of cycling in Queensland.

The new velodrome will be more than just a track cycling facility and the in-field area will have capacity to provide for a range of additional sport and recreation uses through the provision of mixed-use sports courts.

The unique design - that has been delivered is a world class showcase for fabric structure innovation , design, fabrication and installation.
