Please describe the project specifications

24’ x 16’ x 8’ custom outdoor dry diving pit containment vessel.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

We designed a built in trampoline that was installed with two larger foam blocks (4 x 4 x 2) just under the trampoline to produce less bounce and more absorption to a diver. We also built containment vessel that sits on top of the trampoline that not only had to breathe, it also needed the ability to flex and adjust to the impact of the diver. Since the pit is outdoors, we added special mesh vents that worked in conjunction with the trampoline to allow water to escape and prevent moisture accumulating.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This is the first outdoor dry diving practice facility in the country.

What were the results of the project?

The dry diving pit far exceeded Stanford's expectations. The US Olympic team was first to use it and was also impressed along with all of the coaches who have now seen it in operation. This is the third project we have completed at Stanford in the past two years, and they most certainly intend to do more business in the future.
