Please describe the project specifications

The ETFE canopy located in Perth as a landmark in Elizabeth Quay with 44 various sizes of 2-layer cushions is really a stylish and amazing masterpiece. The white wavy patterns on the cushions form an abstract and fantastic painting. With the embellishment of LED light system in the night, it becomes a new highlight in Perth.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

In order to build not only a fashion and eye-catching train hall but also a symbol of the city, the owner and clients ask ETFE manufacturer to supply high quality ETFE cushions with unique patterns that never seen before.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The most complex part of this project is to achieve the patterns that originally designed by architect through precise design process of cutting patterns of every cushion and excellent installation works. This requires our engineers to take the properties of ETFE materials, the material deformation during fabrication and the rise of cushions into their consideration and nest them according to the material information including width and length provided by ETFE supplier. The ETFE supplier will print on the material as per our nested drawings with almost no tolerance. Regarding to the material fabrication, the demand of zero mistake is a big challenge for us because every part of material is unique, no spare material. Finally, we did it.

What were the results of the project?

At the end of last year, the canopy has been installed. This local iconic canopy is one of the few ETFE cushions with unique digital printings in the world and raise the reputation of our company in the field.
