Please describe the project specifications

We designed and fabricated a custom traditional and gable staircase canopy for a chemical manufacturing plant. There are 4 sections, consisting of an upper and lower level landing and 2 flights of stairs on this 2 story high stairwell. The canopy material is Ferrari 502, Mastic #2144 color. The bottom stairway measures 4’ wide x 15’3” deep, the 1st landing is 4’ wide x 9’ deep, the 2nd stairway is 5’ wide x 14’ deep and top landing is 9’ wide x 7’ deep. All framing is 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, & 1x6 aluminum unpainted tubing. All support posts are 2” square galvanized steel painted slate gray.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The chemical plant requested a stairway canopy in their courtyard to protect employees from weather and production elements while accessing office areas in the manufacturing plant. The staircase is located near chemical tanks and production pipes that release steam into the air.

What is unique or complex about the project?

During installation we had to maneuver around large chemical tanks and pipes with the crane and lifts within a small congested area. The steam that was released periodically from the nearby pipes caused condensation over the stairs requiring extreme caution. The unique shape and design of the canopy was required to accommodate the existing landings and staircase while keeping the water runoff away from the building.

What were the results of the project?

The client is pleased with the smooth flow of the installation process and happy to have protection over the busy stair case for their employees.
