Please describe the project specifications

Custom fabricated cantilevered arched canopy measuring 55 ft. 3 in. wide x 15 ft. projection. Fabric is Mesh Awntex 160 EFS Winter Wheat. Aluminum framework supported fabric, consisting of 6” x 6 x ½” aluminum tube and 2” x 3” x 1/8” and 3” x 3” x 3/8” aluminum tubing. Rafters/purlins are mechanically attached and supported via six 8’ x 8’ x 3/8” steel tubing support posts with bolt-down flange plates (piers by others), and a 6 x 8 horizontal steel tubing support beam spanning the width from post to post. All exposed steel was hot dipped galvanized then painted semi-gloss black and all aluminum surfaces were painted semi-gloss black.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The middle school installed an above ground pool (65’ wide x 125’ long) with a surrounding deck on their campus so the swim team can practice before competitions. The client requested a large shade canopy on the deck to provide sun protection for swimmers, coaches and spectators.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The unique style and size of this 12’ wide cantilevered arched canopy creates an eye-catching element on the pool deck. The size of the 6 piers alone is unique at 36” in diameter and 8’ft deep. The cantilever curve required a radius bend of the 6” x 6 ½” aluminum tube.

What were the results of the project?

The middle school swim team was happy to have a comfortable shaded area to rest in while out of the pool during practice hours. The school faculty liked the appearance of this unique style canopy and thought it provided the necessary shade protection to the swimmers.
