Please describe the project specifications

Rooftop performance theater comprising of a cushioned ETFE fabric roof and structural steel framework for children's play productions.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The vision of the project was to provide and open air , yet weather protected stage area for childrens plays, concerts, social events art fairs, creative art programs and special museum events under a state of the art designed and built ETFE tensioned fabric lightweight structure.

What is unique or complex about the project?

the geometry was very complex and the patterning ogf the ETFE cushions left little room for adjustment. The roof site area was exceptionally tight and large steel members and fabric bundles needed to be hoisted from the perimeter narrow streets that surround the museum. Road closings and skilled coordinated lifts to blind sight locations on the roof made for a very difficult erection of the required materials.

What were the results of the project?

An exceptional creative space in a somewhat unused area of the museum has transformed an ordinary flat roof area of a very old building into a jewel of a feature to the Brooklyn Children's Museum into a world class center for creative play, development and entertainment. The project exceeded the clients expectations in every way.
