Please describe the project specifications

Thomas Hurley, the manager of Fiddler's Elbow Country Club of Bedminster, NJ and his ownership saw an awning we produced for the renowned "Winged Foot Golf Club in Harrison, NY" and requested our assistance with their large awning requirements.

The challenge required covering a large space to accommodate very large groups. To avoid a static basic shed style look, we incorporated 2 open gables including their logo icons illuminated by led lighting.
The task was daunting including attachment to an irregular building façade, a 34' gable projection, 150 linear feet of awning that wrapped around a corner of the building and installation almost 2 hours from our shop. We electrostatically painted the welded fabricated frame a satin black color and pre-fabricated all parts in our shop. Installation was done in the field and almost every part weighed over 100 lbs.

Previous to this awning we had produced the awning for the lower deck and both incorporate custom fabricated PVC posts routed with a custom detail. The awning was designed, produced and managed by JC Awning and coordination with representatives from Fiddler's Elbow and their electrician who installed additional lighting, fans and audio equipment.

Best of all, the project was completed on time and on budget without a hitch and received accolades from the management and members of Fiddlers Elbow Golf Club...

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client had a shorter projecting awning that only covered 1/2 of their upper deck.
It didn't handle the 3-400 people that often attended events at their location.
Mr. Hurley and staff met with Joseph Lanza to determine the possibilities for additional coverage without looking like a standard awning.
JC Awning produced concept sketch's along with some rough ideation from their staff and architect. We (JC Awning) developed numerous ideas and included 3d Sketchup files so the client could see the awning from any perspective.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This structure went beyond the scope of a what we call a standard awning. It's irregular shape, large projection and sheer size made the project one of our most our challenging to date.
The large parts of this awning required many pieces to be lifted in place with our crane and genie lifts since some parts weighed up to 450 lbs.
The clients Logos were routed using 1/4" aluminum painted to spec and illuminated with an LED Halo effect at night which was a surprise gift to the client.

Production of AutoCAD drawings helped our fabrication of the in-house parts which gave us accuracy as we produced the frame and fabric cover simultaneously.

In addition to size and weight, the project was nearly 2 hours away from our shop. This required the frame and fabric to be trucked and trailered taking 3 days just to accomplish delivery.

What were the results of the project?

The project was a challenge for our staff who were equally proud of the outcome. It employed all of our skills to create the structure to fulfill the needs of our client.
In the end it resulted in a very happy client who maximizes on the increased space making it the "Nicest Room at the Club!"
