Please describe the project specifications

Fabricate Custom Fitted Cover for clients racecar

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Our client requested a cover that was custom fitted to his racecar o be used when he wasn't racing. Access was needed to the drivers cockpit so they could steer the car without removing the cover. They also wanted to have access to the camera mount so they could set up their camera or change cameras based on individual races.

What is unique or complex about the project?

(The major challenge to this project is that we did not have access to the actual car we were fabricating the cover for. The client had a car that was similar but not exactly the same.

Our company had just started to move into the digital world and we decided what better way to challenge our ability than to do this project with our new technology. We purchased the laser from Laser Products, our cutting table from Carlson Designs, and the software from M-Panel. With this new technology we were able to shoot the car, manipulate the data, and send to the cutting table in a couple of days. We were able to produce the layout where we got maximum use of fabric (even able to move pieces around a flaw so we didn't have waste). The labeling of each piece facilitated the assembly of the cover. We were able to complete the cover in less than a week and without the actual car!

What were the results of the project?

The client delivered the actual car over a holiday break from racing and thanks to our new technology it was a great fit! Our client was very impresses!
