Please describe the project specifications
This commercial-grade cantilevered canopy, approximately 32 feet long, 15 feet wide, and 12 feet tall, provides year round shade for our client’s high-end camping trailer.
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
Our client requested a highly functional, cantilevered shade structure that provided year-round shade, custom tailored to his high-end vintage-style Airstream trailer. Unlike traditional carport canopies, he wanted something unique, yet wouldn’t stand out like a sore thumb in his historical housing community.
What is unique or complex about the project?
The process of designing the structure took longer than actual construction. The client was very particular about the details of how this structure was constructed, so each connection detail was scrutinized and approved by the client before the structure was engineered. Designed as a bolt-together system, careful consideration of where each piece connected to the rest of the structure had to be taken into account so as not to disrupt the fabric. The Alnet Extrablock panels were then laced-on with stainless steel wire rope to the erected structure.
What were the results of the project?
Our client is satisfied with the end results. The structure provides the shade that our concept renderings predicted. The owner since has asked us to explore designs with shade sails on other areas of his property.
