Please describe the project specifications

This project has 2 parts. One part is main roof of 7600sqm while the other part is training pool of 1917sqm. The most special and most diffcult point is the main roof because only one panel of such a big area is rare. 2765 hours are needed for the membrane fabrication of the two parts. 60% of the membrane needed to be grinded by hand. The main roof part uses three kinds of PVC membrane for the high point: TX-30 type III, TX-30 type IV and TX-30 type V.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Kuala Lumpur Aquatic Centre is a water amusement park providing numerous water-related entertainment facilities. Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists are attracted here to experience the happiness and joy of playing with water. PVC roof works as a sunshade for sightseeing people, exempting them from worries and concerns of the harm from strong sunlight to their skin and appearance, meanwhile letting through certain amount of translucency for the light transmission.
This is a refurbishment project, the original PVC structure was more than 20 years old, the coatings have been starting to peeling off, many rips appeared here and there.

What is unique or complex about the project?

It is consists of two parts, main pool and small pool. The main roof, one panel as a whole, with more than 12 high points, has an area of more than 7500 sqm, raising great challenges for fabrication and folding. First of all, large and open areas are required to unfold the membrane during fabrication and packing. Moving of such a big panel is also a problem due to the heavy weight of the material itself. Folding needs a large numbers of labors and workers. The part of main roof has some high points. At the high point the tension belts are sewed in the pockets of membrane. When seen from underneath the membrane, the high point looks like flowers on the down surface of the membrane which bring us a spectacular visual effect.
As it's also a refurbishment project, the old steel and cables are to be reused, much special attention and consideration were paid to the distortion and deformation of the structure.

What were the results of the project?

The project has been installed and finished and was put into use. It brings welfare to sightseers in aquatic park and let people believe the world is becoming more and more beautiful. Many nice and beautiful things here happen to people.
