Please describe the project specifications

This project was for building a full travel/storage cover for a newly built wooden boat.
Fabric used was Sunbrella, Linen, with Evolution used a chafe guard along gunnell, over engine hatch, and center console. All seams were sewn with Solar Fix thread for longivity.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The purpose for this project was to protect the boat during transport and storage. The owner wanted the cover to drop slightly below the gunnel. He asked for it to be one piece, easy on and off. He chose the Linen color of Sunbrella to compliment the boat color.
The cover was constructed with a hidden shock cord band that sits just below the gunnel guard. There is a 6" skirt over the band for directing water run off to ground instead of down the side of boat. Three web straps with buckles run under the hull, side to side and secure at one side with a side release buckle. I buffered the buckle from the hull with a chafe pad fabricated of Evolution Fabric. A shock cord strap with hook extend down bow of cover to bow eye on boat. Aft is secured with two web straps and hooks that attach behind transom at engine cut out, to two bronze pad eyes.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Overall construction of the cover was straight forward. The complex part of the project was coordinating with the boat builder at the NW School of Wooden Boat Building and the client, who lives in Idaho. This coordination included correspondence between myself and the owner for design purposes. Then coordinating with the boat builder to begin project when boat was finished enough, having all the pertinent components installed. It is always an interesting prospect when working with boats under construction.

What were the results of the project?

Tho owner was extremely pleased with the outcome of the cover. He towed the boat over the freeway to Sand Point, Idaho. The cover stayed tight and secured.
