Please describe the project specifications

This is a 50’ by 14’ fixed canopy manufactured and attached to an existing retractable awning. It includes motorized Thompson Weathershield tension shades that are installed along the fixed awning and the retractable. Fans and recessed lighting are included with the structure.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Our client’s goals for the project were to increase all weather seating capacity by covering an open area in front of the existing retractable canopy and enclosing both structures with all weather protection curtains.

What is unique or complex about the project?

As a restaurant situated on the beach, a code requirement is in place where lights need to be environmentally friendly for turtle breeding season, thus the lighting is compliant with the proper color and lumen required. The fixed awning is designed to visually resemble the retractable shade system by using horizontal beams and a water-resistant fabric. The tension design of the Thompson Weathershield curtains can withstand higher winds up to 50 MPH. The fabric of the shades has a light transmission of 42% which allows for a waterproof and naturally well-lit open area for guests during the day.

What were the results of the project?

Our client was pleased with their new shade structure since they were now able to ensure booking their venue space for private parties and events through almost any weather conditions. Most importantly, our client preserved their view of the stunning coastline while maintaining a perfect atmosphere for their guests and an all-weather solution for sunny South Florida.
