Please describe the project specifications

The Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada is intended to provide a modern fan experience, utilizing a sunken bowl with a partial roof around much of its rim, designed to shield spectators. The rim's curved design is meant to prevent snow from accumulating on the roof. The stadium was built to support the construction of a full roof in the future. The south end zone, which is not covered by the roof, features a standing-room-only area known as “Pil Country” that offers patrons more of a relaxed atmosphere. To protect spectators from wind, the lower bowl is situated 10 meters (33 ft) below ground level. The stadium will individually seat 33,000 spectators, and can be expanded to seat up to 40,000 with temporary seating. 38 corporate suites and two levels of luxury seating will also be provided.


What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

FabriTec’s role in the Mosaic Stadium project included the engineering, fabrication and installation of more than 136,000 SF of Chukoh coated fiberglass fabric membrane roof cladding. In addition to the PTFE membrane work, FabriTec’s scope included a design/assist effort on the supporting steel structure where we assisted Walter P. Moore in economizing the steel canopy structure, improving water drainage/snow management and coordinating all membrane attachment steel with Walters Steel.


What is unique or complex about the project?

The aerodynamic form and shape of the venue is a deliberate and functional response to the climate and unique characteristics of the area. The design mitigates wind, sun, snow loads and other climatic issues that have a significant impact on the patron experience.


What were the results of the project?

This world-class venue raises the bar for what a CFL stadium can be and reinforces the city of Regina’s future growth.
