Please describe the project specifications

A full four sided enclosure on a hardtop dual console/bow rider fishing boat.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested maximum protection from the elements, and maximum visibility, but with easy access and exit from both the front and back. He also wanted extra ventilation capability on the side curtains. The hardtop presented many obstacles to attaching the upper track, like molded fiberglass electronics boxes, speakers, and lights that had to be avoided. There was very little room between the hardtop edge vertical lip and the items listed The lower edge of the curtains were secured with Flex-A-Rail to the side windshield edge, with a zipper and Velcro. On the front curtains we used snaps and X-treme Seal, and the center window can swing up and snap to the ceiling, for easy access to the open bow area seating. The rear center curtain rolls up and straps.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The hardtop/boat manufacturer made the project very difficult due to the location and trajectory of the hardtop frame legs and braces, (in addition to the undulating hardtop). The curtains had to have specially fitted and sealed cutouts to accommodate the structure. Also, the welded rod holders protruded through the plane of the side curtains, and had to be cut around and sealed versus covered up (easier) so they could be utilized even with the curtains on. The aft corners have adjustable buckle straps for easy installation and removal, as well as maximum tightening.

What were the results of the project?

Initially, we told the client that he could not have an enclosure because of all the obstacles in the way, and difficulties to design and install the curtains. But after MUCH discussion about the proper location for the track, and varied methods of attachment, we achieved the ultimate goal-a Happy Customer, and a beautiful enclosure!
