Please describe the project specifications
The roof for a train museum
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
Our client request us to design a clear span and light structure solution in order to cover the open space in the middle of an old train roundhouse building, now used as a classic trains Museum. The roof protects the visitors and the trains. The roof also have an inner ceiling to reduce the heat. This tensilstructure is just part of the entire renovation of the building.
What is unique or complex about the project?
The main architect ask us to make the roof the flattest possible, so the challenge was to adjust the shape of it to the limit, so it can still works fine evacuating the water and the snow. Also to achieve a good ratio between the height and the length of the transverse arches, meanwhile we wanted to have as few supports as possible to gain more free space and less weight for the structure. The diameter of the roof is 80m, 23m higth supported by 18 columns.
What were the results of the project?
It had good results. The rest of the building still in construction.
