Please describe the project specifications

For this project we manufactured two sails and 7 poles. The sails totaled 945 sq ft. The poles were 6 and 8 inches in diameter and were from 10 to 15 feet tall.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The Big Outside is a 10,000 square foot outdoor space for playing, rehabilitation, and healing for the patients and families at the Cardon Children’s Medical Center. The area includes mini golf, a basketball court, an amphitheater, a bereavement garden and playground equipment. Two large sails provide the shade needed to make this area comfortable when the sun is out.

What is unique or complex about the project?

When you think about a hospital, you don’t often imagine it including an outdoor play area, especially not one like this.
Almost as unique as the area itself is how it was funded. The Big Outside was made possible through the fundraising efforts of community members, parents, patients, hospital staff and The Banner Health Foundation. Donations were also made by those involved in building the area, including our company.

What were the results of the project?

The Big Outside is bright and beautiful. Children receiving treatment at the hospital now have a place to go outside, play and have fun. The best part is that it allows them to keep their minds off of their treatment.
The area isn’t just for the patients, now parents can have a place to reflect and recharge, and siblings have a fun place to interact with their brothers or sisters who are being treated at the hospital.
