Please describe the project specifications

Entrance canopy measuring 9’wide x 42’long for a hospital outpatient surgery center. The canopy near the building door is a quarter barrel and transitions into a half barrel shape to mirror the footprint of the existing handicap access ramp. The substructure supporting the canopy has 3” x 3”
steel posts and 4” x 3” horizontal steal beams. The fabric is Ferrari 2161 and framework painted Midnight Blue to match the fabric.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested coverage over the drive-up/drop-off area and building doorways for surgery outpatients. The 42’ long wheelchair access walkway needed protection from the weather elements to provide comfort to patients while entering/exiting their surgery procedures.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The changing elevations of the concrete walkway from the building doorway entrance to the drive-up/drop-off point was challenging to keep the entire canopy at the same level. There was a 1 ½’ drop off leading to the building door entrance area.

What were the results of the project?

The covered canopy walkway now allows for a more comfortable access of transporting outpatients between the drop off location and hospital entrance. The hospital staff and patients are happy for the protection against year-round weather elements.
