This palm oil company did not have any existing process for sludge removal and had been accumulating it for over 40 years. TenCate Geotube® dewatering technology was compared to manual removal and other sophisticated technologies, so it fit as the best cost/benefit relation. The process allowed for them to contain the sludge, recover pond volume and have an effluent in very good condition for a free discharge.

To recover pond volume, remove sludge and be an environmental friendly solution.
What is unique or complex about the project?
This was the first of its kind in the Ecuadorian Palm Oil industry. It also replaced a complete waste water treatment plant investment.
What were the results of the project?
Since it is the first of its kind in Ecuadorian Palm Oil industry, it showed resistance from many sectors from within the company. However, it proved to be an excellent, economical and environmental solution.
Ecuadorian Environmental Authorities approved the process. Geotube® units are now an integer part of the process. The client has now incorporated Geotube® units as their preferred containment and dewatering technology.
