Please describe the project specifications
A custom center-supported permanent umbrella (gorillaBrella) 18 foot by 20 foot by 7’-8” entry height
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
The client requested shade on his backyard patio and west end of his swimming pool while preserving mountain views. They also desired to keep the sun off of the handrails at the pool steps during summer months.
What is unique or complex about the project?
The client was extremely particular about different aspects of the structure. The vertical column was to be centered on the pool while casting a near-constant supply of shade over the pool entry bars. The homeowner’s limited mobility dictated that the column needed to far enough away from the pool entry that a wheelchair or other assisted mobility device could maneuver between the pool entry and the furniture. Because of these restraints, we created a custom umbrella that projected significantly further towards and over the pool entry and less in the rear.
What were the results of the project?
Aside from accomplishing the goals of providing the requested shade coverage and preserving the mountain views, we created an architecturally appealing structure that feels like a planned element of the homeowner’s intricately landscaped backyard paradise.
