Please describe the project specifications

Hotel Faena hosted a weeklong amount of activations at their hotel in Miami Beach during Art Basel Week 2017. They requested a custom rooftop structure to cover one of their patios.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client wanted a custom all white 1,200 square foot structure that they could use for events year round, but most notably during Art Basel Week.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This structure was designed and engineered to be placed on the rooftop terrace where Faena’s PAO Restaurant is located. We utilized one of our curving roof designs to give a sleek and modern aesthetic to the client. The structure integrated directly into the foundation of the building. The reactions required to be overcome were very high given the requirement to adhere to Miami’s stringent temporary building code.

To comply with the client’s request that all components be white, we powder coated all structural components prior to installation, with some touchups required be done on site. This included the base plates, curved arches, nuts, bolts and washers.

The installation was accomplished utilizing a small crane truck. Arches were assembled ground level and then lifted up and pined by our staff. Custom printed graphics were printed and tied off too the structure to give a garden look and feel to the space.

What were the results of the project?

The event space is still in use to this day with the only the graphics having changes made to them. The client was quite happy with the structure and intend to use it year round.
