Please describe the project specifications

The project was to re-cover an existing two bow dodger for a 2000 Beneteau 411. The goal and challenge of this project was to meet the customer’s requests to update the look and feel of the dodger, maximize visibility while preserving the classic traditional dodger look conducive to the era of the boat. This was achieved in both design elements and material choices.

To start, adjustments were made to the existing frame raising the forward bow to both expand the view and increase the rake of the front windshield. The aft bow was adjusted to match, creating additional coverage and protection over the companion way. The expansive views were also achieved by decreasing the top and bottom view lines across the front windshield and incorporating two large windows on each wing. The center front windshield was designed to flip and attach to the dodger top to eliminate an interruption of view from a rolled-up window. The alloy of modern and classic was achieved by integrating the classic triangle windows and modernizing them with sharp crisp corners. A two-ply fabric process was used to fabricate the windows eliminating binded or raw window edges providing a clean line, modern finish. A modern darker shade of green (Sunbrella Ivy) was used while still complementing the traditional Beneteau green accent stripe. The traditional leather or vinyl chafing patch was replaced with Serge Ferrari Stamskin Top (black) adding both an updated look and feel. Minimal sized fabric breaks were incorporated to maintain classic window definition and expansive view adding to an updated classic design.
