Please describe the project specifications

The project was to replace the retractable awnings on the windows of the flyboat located in the Old Port of Montreal. So, our representative, Yvon Joly went to the Old Port of Montréal to meet the captain of the flyboat and understand the project he had in mind.

Afterwards, Yvon Joly took the first steps to see how much fabric would be needed to do the project. Our representative urged the boat's captain to choose blue for the colour of the fabric. Previously, the fabrics were white, the blue would be much better with the boat since it still sails on the Saint-Laurent.

After taking the first steps, Yvon handed the file to Martin Saucier, project manager. He went to take the final steps of the project. Martin designed the project on AutoCad so he could give the production team the right guidelines.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Previously, the customer had put canvas inside thinking to be able to lower the temperature in the boat. Unfortunately, with time, the paintings quickly became obsolete. The client needed a reliable partner who could provide him with custom exterior retractable awnings that would cover the outside surface of the boat. Also, the temperature in the boat was incredibly high. In summer, it could be up to 32 degrees Celcius in the boat. So customers could not fully enjoy the boat ride because of the heat.

What is unique or complex about the project?

If there is one thing that has made this project unique, it is having to put retractable awnings on a boat. We had already done a similar project in 2006. However, the challenge was to be able to produce a customized product that would be aesthetic and recognizable.

Since the boat is not just a flat surface, the challenge was to have a good 3D vision to complete the project. The installation was also a challenge in itself, coordinating the installation of retractable electric awnings is difficult.

What were the results of the project?

Visually, the project is simply beautiful! In addition, by installing the retractable awnings on the awning, this allowed to lower the temperature inside the fly boat by 20 degrees. Making boat tours much more enjoyable for the customer!
