Please describe the project specifications

For this corporate office lobby, two “trees” were created that offer a modern twist to the winter holiday season.
Standing at 20ft and 12ft in height, the glistening trees extend an elegant play on lighting through the use of a reversible sequin fabric.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested that the installation be based on the abstract shape of a tree and that it be wrapped in a dual-sided sequin fabric. The trees would be used to decorate a lobby over the holiday season for years to come.

What is unique or complex about the project?

A reversible shiny silver on matte silver sequin fabric was sourced to cover each structure. Many options were reviewed prior to making the final selection. The fabric is primarily used in the fashion and home décor markets, so finding the available quantity within the timeframe required was a challenge.

The structure of the trees was another important feature. It was required that both trees be free-standing (not requiring rigging) and that the shape of each be a true cone, without faceting. The aluminum framework of each tree was engineered with weighted bases in order to stand self-supported. Covering each structure was a flexible PVC liner which afforded the cones to hold their shape once the fabric was applied.

What were the results of the project?

The completed trees made a huge impact within the environment. The reversible nature of the sequin fabric created an interactive component for visitors within the environment. This modern take on holiday décor added sparkle and scale to the office lobby.
