Please describe the project specifications

Two mesh panels each 10 ft. 10 in. x 34 ft. 6 in., with Concave design. 1 1/4" tubing bent to match wall radius top and bottom of existing wall with eye bolts and 1/8" stainless steel cables approx. 18 in. on center. Fabric installed behind cables with cables creating concave shape. White Mesh 70 Rosebrand fabric painted to match the plaster exterior surface of the musical stage walls.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The outdoor Muny Theatre renovated the venue to celebrate its 101st season. In rebuilding the theatre stage, the client wanted to have the enormous speakers on the stage hidden from the audience view. Mesh 70 is a white, IFR, wide width, open weave PVC coated fabric suitable for long-term exterior use. The large mesh, scrim-like construction allows 70% airflow through the fabric for optimal acoustic transparency and minimal billowing. Mesh 70 can be printed on or painted and works well as a front projection surface.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Internal framing on the speakers was not allowed because it would obstruct the acoustic sound waves. The panels were attached only to the top, bottom and sides of the speaker walls. We had a short turnaround timeframe of 2 weeks to fabricate, paint and install before opening night.

What were the results of the project?

The client loved the look of the panels over the speakers and how well they blended in with the existing stage wall; not to mention the acoustic function. We were able to install panels several days before the opening season show on June 10, 2019.
