The installation at the Benchmark Electronics Headquarters consists of 8 square columns and 3 custom shade sails that provide 968 square feet of shade.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested a structure that would provide shade over an outdoor patio/bar area outside of their newly constructed headquarters building.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The Benchmark Headquarters is located in an area of recent construction placed over a much older landfill. Due to the composition of the soil beneath finish grade, which included glass bottles, tires, and trash, this project required wide, shallow spread footings to properly distribute the force load of the shade sails out instead of down.

What were the results of the project?

The shade structure provides functional shade to the outdoor patio area, and successfully adds visual appeal to the headquarters building, while matching its contemporary styling.
