Five (5) square columns and two (2) custom layered shade sails provide approximately 1,222 square feet of shade.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Catalina Lutheran Church board members approached us with a request to shade an outdoor assembly area with an eye catching shade structure. The space was an obvious location to plan and host activities, but had been primarily unused due to its unprotected exposure to the intense Arizona sun.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Catalina Lutheran Church is nestled just to west of the scenic Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona. The congregation was adamant about not obstructing views of the mountains but highlighting its picturesque landscape, so the design of the project absolutely revolved around this goal. Additionally, the layered shade sails feature colors that were selected to complement existing environmental elements.

What were the results of the project?

The church and its members were very pleased with the shade structure’s design and the effectiveness of the shade provided, and were excited to use their new outdoor patio space for social church functions.
