Please describe the project specifications

Foster Park playground is part of Selwyn District Councils major new sport and recreation park development for the town of Rolleston and greater Selwyn area. With the community using the playground for education, sport and recreation large static shade areas were required to enhance this experience.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The community using the park and playground for casual recreation and picnicking required shaded spaces to shelter from the sun whilst enjoying the playground at all times of the day year round.
The client wanted clean shade structures that were visually stunning with bright vibrant colours in soft textiles that would add visually to the overall design without too many structural elements.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Being a large very exposed playground site with local Norwest winds regularly gusting over one hundred and twenty kilometres per hour and possible snow in the winter meant design strength was of the upmost importance.

What were the results of the project?

With the playground now finished and being enjoyed by the community the feedback to us from the client and families has been extremally complementary with a great deal of pride in this modern exciting public space all can be proud of.
