Please describe the project specifications

The sports dome of Inner Mongolia Medical School is currently the largest multi-sports dome in China which was commissioned in October 2017. It adopted translucent membrane for its ceiling and the pattern design incorporated the cultural elements of Inner Mongolia prairie land.

The mega dome covers: a standard football field; 400-meter track and stand; courts for tennis, badminton and table tennis; fields for long jump, high jump, shot put and other special sports. The temperature and humidity inside the dome can be maintained all year round to meet the athletes’ needs. The football training center uses glare-free lighting technology to provide the best customer experience. Besides, the dome is equipped with air purification system to reduce PM2.5 inside the dome. and an air purification system to keep the people isolated from the smog during exercise and away from PM2.5.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Provide high-quality, all year-round sports venues for people in prairie area, reducing the impacts of long winter and sand storms in spring and autumn

What is unique or complex about the project?

1. The first full-size multi-functional stadium dome in China with a 400-meter track which has been certified by the Asian Athletics Federation.
2. The project is 193 meters long, 107 meters wide and 36 meters high. The building area is 20,645 square meters. The indoor space volume is 720,000 cubic meters. The design uses the curved shape of the corner of the dome to promote the airflow to save the length of the air duct which drastically reduced construction costs.
3. The pattern design on the top of the dome with translucent membrane is not only eye catching but also allows natural light coming into the dome to achieve good lighting effects while reducing energy consumption.
4. The project has undergone firefighting performance test which is a breakthrough in air dome category.
5. The extreme cold weather in Inner Mongolia requires the best thermal insulation. For this project, an anti cold bridge insulation technology was adopted, which enhanced the thermal insulation capacity of the dome.

What were the results of the project?

It solves the problem that Inner Mongolian can't carry out outdoor sports in winter, and provides high-quality all weather sports venues for the government sponsored football training.
