Please describe the project specifications
An Atlanta-based architecture and interior design firm contacted our company to request a recommendation/design for a new restaurant in the Orlando, Florida area.
The restaurant, Luke’s Kitchen, part of a Florida-based restaurant group and winner of the 23rd annual Orlando Sentinel foodie award had one goal in mind and that was to obtain the highest return on investment (ROI) for their new outdoor dining area. To accomplish the goal our company recommended 3 butting, angled, motorized, waterproof, retractable roof pergola systems covered on the front and sides with 5 retractable mesh screens to protect guests and staff from mosquitoes, sun, heat, and glare.
What is unique or complex about the project?
We entered this project and accepted the project from the restaurant owners to help the restaurant serve more customers regardless of the type of weather occurring (rain or sun) in the Maitland, Florida area (hurricanes and lightning of course are excluded).
What made this project somewhat difficult from an installation standpoint is that the client wanted the front posts buried at least 12” into the ground so that rainwater would drain below ground level. A local general contractor was hired to obtain the permit to pour new concrete footers below ground level.
After the retractable roof pergolas and screens installation was complete, the client added rotating fans and mood lighting.
The client stated that the retractable pergolas and retractable screens are the envy of other local restaurants and that they are more than pleased with the quality, functionality, and colors recommended.
