Please describe the project specifications

A general contractor (GC) called and asked if we can provide a unique, modern, free-standing retractable pergola for a residential condominium in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Their client was looking for something for shade and rain protection. The system was manufactured so that rainwater will drain to one side of the fabric and drip off the edge of the fabric into the flower beds…..Keep the customer dry and water the plants at the same time!

The GC requested the bolt spacing and base column detail for the support columns so that he could have a custom-made bottom of post bases manufactured locally. As you can see from the photos, he had that done and custom powder-coated in the same RAL (Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen) color as the structure. We were so impressed with these bases that we would like to offer them for future sales for this model.

The fabric used for this project was waterproof, not water-resistant. All extrusions are 6063 aluminum and components used for assembly were marine-grade stainless steel.

What is unique or complex about the project?

We chose to take on this project to provide shade and rain protection to allow a condo owner to enjoy her condominium terrace during the spring and summer months by providing sun and rain protection and helping the customer save a few $ on their water bill by watering the plants using nature.

Mission accomplished. Both the GC and the homeowner expressed their gratitude and satisfaction.
