Custom built sofa with storage under the seats and armrests, covered in customer-supplied Italian leather. The vessel is a Merritt Sport Fish 72’.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Customer wanted a large custom-built sofa with storage under the seats and in the arm rests. Customer did not want standard vertical channels but wanted horizontal channels. We designed the sofa. Merritt built the frame. We engineered the upholstery.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The horizontal channels were very challenging during the manufacturing process. We developed separate pockets for the foam within each channel. We installed zippers for each channel to hold the foam and to accentuate and hold the shape. The entire seat and back are on hydraulic hinges which lifted up for storage space. The armrests also lift for storage. The outside of the armrests were styled to mimic the same horizontal channeling as the rest of the sofa.

What were the results of the project?

This was a unique look and very difficult to fabricate, but in the end, the photos speak for themselves and the customer was in awe.
