What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

New construction however the boat was being delivered out of plastic wrap and owners wanted to customize the fabrics adding classic colors. 2015 Eastbay 50SX. We had worked onboard this customers 2009 (new at time) 40ft Sabre and outfitted with all new decor items. Client request via email: “maybe a little more sophisticated [than Sabre] since this boat is a little more contemporary then the “down-easter” look of the Sabre.”

What is unique or complex about the project?

Having worked with this customer before we knew the wife was very detail oriented. In fact when it came time for the color/design process she got a hotel room next to our offices to spend the weekend....just to give you an idea. The harsh winter of 2015 was rough on the install and this couple wanted everything complete early Spring so they could move boat a little south to their marina. We had to keep asking boatyard to have heaters going, and they were accommodating yet required advanced notice etc. Installation of wall to wall carpet wasn’t easy at all. The big kink we had was ordering the main salon aft blinds. The customer wanted to add two blinds to match the starboard and port. So the broker put us in touch with the builder in Malaysia. We got the information and ordered the blinds we needed through a vnedor we are a wholesaler for. When we went to install them they were the wrong color becasue we were given the wrong color code from builder. This of course caused a delay in project and broker had to talk to builder who had to reimburse the customer for expenses. Cockpit: the customer wanted a wide stripe and we explained to them there would be a mitre in corner which they were fine with (and we knew we had a bolster and angle to be aware of on the corner-yiks).

What were the results of the project?

Couple sent a testimonial and posted on their Facebook: “After the wonderful job Krisha did for our 2009 Sabre 42 I didn’t want to sell the boat; it looked too beautiful. I only relented when my husband agreed to let me have Onboard Interiors outfit our new Defiance. The slightly more contemporary styling of this new 2015 EastBay 50SX lends itself to a more sophisticated look and the end results are simply stunning! Thanks so much, Cindy C.
