Please describe the project specifications

The outdoor gear and tactical markets are always looking for new materials that are light in weight and high in strength and durability. This laser-cuttable fabric is used for load carriage and needs to have a degree of rigidity, as well as be low-profile and somewhat flexible. Strength and high abrasion resistance are of utmost importance, and it needs to stand up to rugged use over time. We created Squadron B-52™ to answer the request from this market. Specifications are as follows:

Weight (ASTM D3776) – 17-18 oz/sq yd
Tensile Strength (ASTM D5034)
* Warp – 500+
* Fill – 500+
Abrasion Resistance (ASTM D3884) - 18 wheel, 1000 gr wgt - 700 cycles min.
* Face - Pass
* Back - Pass

The market responded well to this lighter weight alternative material for military and tactical vests, pouches, outdoor packs and gear. Production has begun in 6 colors and prints, with 3 more planned for later this year.

What is unique or complex about the project?

We entered this project because of the high value of this project to the market. The success of this highly technical development allows the user to lighten the weight of the load they need to carry, while trusting that the material will not fail even in harsh conditions. Whether climbing, backpacking or on a military mission, a lighter load can make a big difference in stamina and exertion. This project is set apart from others because the lighter end product really makes a difference to the user.
