Please describe the project specifications

We were tasked with building a continuous pit building encompassing 13 garages for the Formula E Race Teams and FIA Technical elements. This required designing, engineering and installing a 33’x640’ structure that could support the seamless integration of a custom parapet graphics system.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The primary complexity of this project was the integration of a structural parapet valence system into the framing of the structure. Over the years, this client wanted to find transform the aesthetic of the paddock graphics from adhesive of tent gables to something more striking for guests and TV viewers alike.

To achieve this, an adjustable level framework had to be integrated into the parapet system independent of the tent structure itself. The column to beam gussets of the tent structure had to be reinforced to support this framework as well as the rigid alumaboard backing that the art work was actually applied to.

Installation of this structure proved extremely challenging given the length, timeline and leveling requirements. An alternative build sequence was utilized so the graphics bottleneck would be mitigated as best as possible. Logistics also played a roll as the build location was also an active loading dock for numerous businesses in the Red Hook, Brooklyn are of New York City.
