Please describe the project specifications

Design and Develop a next-to-skin layer that reduces heat stress, meets the standards of ASTM 1506 and NFPA 2112 that is comfortable, lightweight, and can be worn year-round.


What is unique or complex about the project?

As a leading manufacturer and distributor or AR/FR protective apparel, we are always looking for innovative ways to set ourselves apart from our competition. Partnering with our sister company, Front Line Fabrics, to use the most advanced fabric on the market, and Gerber Technology, using their 2D/3D CAD technology, we were able to collaborate to bring a new next to skin base layer to market during the height of a pandemic in a virtual working environment.

Front Line’s Patent Pending Regulator™ fabric manages body temperature, providing all-season performance-keeping the body cool when hot and increasing CLO value when cold. This unique fabric is inherently flame-resistant and lightweight at just 4.8 oz/yd². The unique stretch and recovery of this fabric allowed us to fit close to the body, so the end-user is protected and comfortable. The garment is tagless and designed with flatlock seams for maximum comfort.

During the height of a pandemic, we could only connect virtually and it was important that our technology be able to keep up with our continued demand. Utilizing Gerber Technology’s AccuMark® 2D and 3D design software, we were able to design, prototype and fit this garment virtually without having to create a real sample. We were then able to use the high-quality 3D renderings to share the look of the garment with our sales team to sell the garment through the production cycle. Without this, we would not have been able to efficiently create this garment.
