Please describe the project specifications

A dodger for a yacht with lock-line roof on a custom stainless frame with link sheet and full cat-proof mesh enclosure.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Sailing vision is very important, as was winch clearance and entry into the cockpit from both the aft, and sides, of the yacht. We needed to work with a stainless steel fabrication company to incorporate a davit system into the bimini roof design. The davit and aft rail also had to allow for the mesh enclosure to work as a cat enclosure, and also required connection points for main boom bag awnings. I decided upon a “hard top roof effect” style bimini roof using lock-line to enhance and incorporate with the stainless work. This 36’ yacht has very square cabin sides sides and created some design challenges with the restricted cockpit are.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The dodger needed to be redesigned around the instrument panel and traveller for the Boom. We also worked closely with the stainless steel manufacturer and had regular discussions on changes and improvements.

What were the results of the project?

The end result we achieved was far beyond the customers’ expectations. We were also able to create and far larger usable area then what they were expecting. We created the outdoor living area they had dreamed of and a new area for their beloved family member Mr. Kitty.
