Please describe the project specifications

Two custom framed structures provide beneficial shade for community members while enjoying the complex’s swimming pool and poolside amenities. One structure features a steel frame supported by 5 columns with one shade sail attached to the frame. The second structure consists of a steel frame supported by 10 columns, 4 custom shade sails.

The client wanted two unique structures to provide an architectural feature around the community swimming pool while providing beneficial shade for an outdoor barbeque and lounge area. The original design was modified to fit within the client’s budget.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Both of the steel structures were meticulously planned and fabricated prior to our arrival on site. The design included connection plates that needed to match up precisely for structural bolts to pass through and secure the pieces of steel together. Our excavation for footings and placement of the steel columns had to be exact in order for the top frame to assemble the entire structure. To add to the complexity, we had to deal with grade changes, as certain columns sat atop a retaining wall, while other columns were at the pool deck grade.

These two structures make a stunning feature for this apartment community. Residents enjoy utilizing these spaces for their personal recreation. The General Contractor was extremely pleased with our performance, and has continued our working relationship by engaging us on subsequent projects.
